Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Multimedia Resources Unit (MRU) of the Audiovisual Services Section, part of the Coverage and Media Services Branch in the News and Media Division of the Department of Global Communications. The MRU is tasked with providing audiovisual library and archival services, as well as distributing multimedia content to both internal and external professional clients. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience for individuals interested in information management, particularly in the context of multimedia libraries. Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside seasoned professionals in the field, gaining insights into the management of multimedia archival collections. Responsibilities will include tasks related to preservation, accessibility, metadata management, client services, and outreach, all under the guidance of the Chief of the Multimedia Resources Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be assigned to one or more of the multimedia libraries, which may include the Photo or Audiovisual Library, depending on their individual backgrounds and references. The duties will encompass a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the management of multimedia collections. Interns will engage in preservation activities to ensure the longevity of audiovisual materials, assist in making collections accessible to users, and manage metadata to facilitate efficient retrieval of information. They will also be involved in client services, providing support to users seeking information from the libraries, and participating in outreach initiatives to promote the resources available. Additionally, interns may be tasked with data entry related to long-term data preservation and management, as well as contributing to social media posts to enhance the visibility of the unit's work.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet specific criteria set by the United Nations. They should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in standard word processing and spreadsheet software applications. A strong interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential.
