Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Women in Learning Leadership (WiLL) research agenda, which aims to promote gender-responsive education and equitable representation of women in school leadership roles. The consultant will work closely with the GCI Lead and the Head of Office at IIEP Dakar, contributing to both global and country-specific research activities. The position involves leading the development of assessment tools, analyzing educational datasets, and drafting policy briefs that focus on school leadership and gender issues in education. The consultant will also engage in data collection and analysis in collaboration with Ministries of Education in various African countries, ensuring that the research aligns with local priorities and needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's responsibilities include conducting global research in partnership with UNICEF Innocenti, leading the identification and analysis of assessment tools for measuring gender-responsive education, and analyzing education datasets to draft policy briefs. At the country level, the consultant will analyze EMIS and exam data, manage ethical protocols for research, develop survey questionnaires, and oversee data collection processes. Additionally, the consultant will coordinate with national counterparts and facilitate technical teams from Ministries of Education, contribute to policy dialogue, and support fundraising efforts for the project. Quality assurance is also a key responsibility, ensuring that all research activities adhere to high methodological and ethical standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master or PhD) in education, economics, social sciences, gender studies, or related fields. They should have at least ten years of professional experience in quantitative research and report writing in education and gender, with a minimum of two years at the international level. Strong analytical and writing skills, a track record of publications, and experience managing research projects are essential. Candidates should also have good knowledge of educational and gender issues in Africa, proficiency in statistical software, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's or PhD) in relevant fields such as education, economics, social sciences, or gender studies is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of educational policies and gender dynamics in the context of African countries.
Experience: The position requires at least ten years of professional experience in quantitative research and report writing, specifically in the fields of education and gender.
