Job Overview:
This internship is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in the field of international relations, specifically focusing on peace and security issues in South and Southeast Asia. The internship is full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, and is primarily based at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. However, it offers flexibility in terms of working arrangements, allowing for part-time or remote work depending on the candidate's needs. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the UN's mission in the Asia and the Pacific Division, particularly within the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and the Department of Peace Operations (DPO).

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks including conducting research on peace and security issues relevant to South and Southeast Asia, monitoring media and analyzing current events, drafting thematic papers and background documents, and preparing correspondence. They will also attend conferences and meetings, take notes, assist in organizing meetings, and support data collection and information management efforts. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to assist with project management tasks, gaining valuable insights into the workings of the United Nations and its approach to international peace and security.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must be able to provide proof of their academic status and will be evaluated through a written assessment and/or a competency-based interview.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship's focus on peace and security in South and Southeast Asia, with a strong emphasis on international relations, political science, or related fields. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree program must be provided during the application process.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.
