Job Overview: The Communications Officer will play a pivotal role in leading the implementation of the UNESCO Hanoi communications strategy. This position involves providing comprehensive communications support for all office programs and projects, as well as developing targeted communications campaigns that align with key UNESCO priorities. The officer will work closely with the Country Office Representative and collaborate with communications officers in Bangkok and UNESCO Headquarters. The role also includes contributing to the UN Communications Team's efforts to promote a unified message under the UN Vietnam Communications Framework. Additionally, the Communications Officer will support fundraising initiatives, particularly with the private sector, to enhance the office's outreach and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Officer will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: leading the planning and design of internal and external communication strategies; developing communication and partnership materials; managing the UNESCO Hanoi office's communication work, which includes updating content for social media channels and managing media relations; producing communication products such as news stories, graphics, and videos; ensuring proper branding and positioning of UNESCO to the public; coordinating communication aspects of office events; supporting program/project communications in collaboration with program/project officers; reviewing communication products and campaigns; liaising with other field offices and HQ communications officers; acting as the focal point for communication in relevant forums; and supporting fundraising efforts with the private sector. The officer may also be tasked with additional responsibilities as requested by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in communication is required. Excellent written and spoken proficiency in both Vietnamese and English is essential. Strong interpersonal and networking skills are necessary, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders in the media and other partners. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity to develop and tailor messages for diverse audiences and possess excellent writing skills. Familiarity with design software and digital media tools, including the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, is highly desirable. A commitment to equity, gender equality, and cultural diversity is expected, and prior experience in a UN or development context is an asset.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and the nuances of public relations in an international context.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of professional experience in communication roles. Additional Notes: This position is intended for Vietnamese nationals and is a full-time role based at the UNESCO Country Office in Hanoi. The contract duration is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The position is classified at the SC-8 level, which includes gross salary, medical insurance, and social benefits. UNESCO's salaries are paid in local currency (VND).
