Job Overview: The Policy Officer position is integral to the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (GAAHP), which aims to eradicate poverty, hunger, and malnutrition globally. The officer will support the implementation of the Policy Basket, which includes a variety of policy instruments designed to address these issues. The role involves providing technical and policy advice to Alliance Members and stakeholders, advocating for strategic partnerships, and participating in high-level policy analysis missions. The officer will also engage in resource mobilization activities and capacity development initiatives, ensuring that policies are effectively integrated and implemented across various sectors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Policy Officer will be responsible for a range of duties including: providing technical and policy advice to Alliance Members; advocating for best practices and policy dialogue; participating in multidisciplinary teams for policy analysis; interacting with various teams to improve nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition security strategies; designing resource mobilization activities; organizing capacity development activities; promoting international cooperation; responding to requests for technical assistance; leading policy engagement initiatives; advising countries on agricultural and food policy trends; contributing to policy monitoring indicators; coordinating high-level policy meetings; and overseeing the GAAHP Policy Basket curation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as political sciences, social sciences, economics, or sustainable agriculture. They should have at least seven years of relevant experience in policy advice and analysis related to food and nutrition security, agriculture, and rural development. Proficiency in English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language is required. Candidates should also demonstrate strong competencies in results focus, leadership, communication, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree is required, specifically in fields related to political sciences, social sciences, economics, development economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, or sustainable agriculture. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of policy development and implementation in the context of food security and poverty eradication.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in policy advice and analysis. This experience should encompass areas such as food and nutrition security, agriculture, rural development, and social protection. Experience working with inter-governmental bodies and multidisciplinary teams is also crucial, as is experience in organizing multilateral meetings and workshops.
Languages: A working knowledge of English at proficiency level C is mandatory, along with intermediate knowledge (level B) of another FAO official language, which can include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish.
