Job Overview: The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the programmatic functions of the GEF Coordination Office. This position involves assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of environmental projects, which are vital for achieving sustainable development goals. The intern will coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure that project timelines are adhered to and will engage in data analysis to inform decision-making processes. This includes data cleaning and participating in the evaluation of project outcomes and impacts. The intern will also prepare evaluation reports and provide recommendations for improvements, ensuring that the GEF Portfolio is effectively disclosed on key platforms such as UNEP Open Data and the GEF Portal. Furthermore, the intern will handle internal processes related to project registry and follow-ups, respond to requests for GEF portfolio data, and collaborate with team members to gather necessary information. Supporting communication and outreach activities to promote UNEP's initiatives and engage with partners and the public is also a key expectation of this role. The intern will assist in following up with five GEF Focal Areas to identify and pre-empt issues, ensuring timely delivery of reports.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include:
Assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of environmental projects, ensuring coordination with stakeholders and adherence to project timelines.
Conducting data analysis using analytical tools to inform decision-making, including data cleaning and evaluation of project outcomes.
Preparing evaluation reports and recommending improvements based on findings.
Assisting in the disclosure of the GEF Portfolio on platforms such as UNEP Open Data and GEF Portal.
Managing internal processes, including project registry and follow-ups, and responding to requests for GEF portfolio data.
Collaborating with team members to gather necessary information and articulate responses.
Supporting communication and outreach activities to promote UNEP's initiatives and engage with partners and the public.
Following up with GEF Focal Areas to identify potential issues and ensure timely report delivery.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). The academic background should be in a programme focused on natural science, social sciences, sustainable development, communication, economic discipline, or a related field.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as natural sciences, social sciences, sustainable development, communication, or economics. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of environmental projects and the necessary analytical skills required for data analysis and project evaluation.
