Job Overview: This consultancy aims to empower youth leaders from various regions and communities in Guinea-Bissau by providing them with essential leadership and entrepreneurship skills. The consultant will develop and implement training programs that enhance the capacity of youth leaders to address community challenges and lead development initiatives. The consultancy also focuses on equipping UNFPA interns and fellows with the necessary skills to engage in leadership roles and participate actively in community-based initiatives. The training will include interactive sessions, workshops, and practical exercises designed to foster collaboration, networking, and effective community engagement among youth leaders. The consultant will be responsible for creating a comprehensive training curriculum, conducting training sessions, and providing ongoing support to participants as they develop their business ventures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop a comprehensive leadership training curriculum tailored to the needs of youth in Bissau, incorporating modules on self-awareness, communication, team building, conflict resolution, and community engagement.
Conduct interactive training sessions for approximately 100 youth leaders over 14 days, utilizing various teaching methods such as workshops, group activities, role-playing, and case studies.
Provide training materials, handouts, and toolkits for participants, including a leadership handbook summarizing key concepts and practices.
Develop pre- and post-training assessments to measure the progress and impact of the training, and gather feedback from participants to evaluate effectiveness.
Guide participants in creating detailed business plans and provide templates and examples of successful plans.
Offer one-on-one coaching to help participants refine their business ideas and plans, and assist them in identifying and applying for grants and funding opportunities.
Establish a follow-up mechanism to monitor the progress of participants' business ventures and organize periodic check-ins and additional coaching sessions as needed.
Develop a comprehensive curriculum for UNFPA interns and fellows that includes modules on leadership and youth participation, and create training materials for these sessions.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced University Degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics, Business Administration, sociology, Law, psychology, statistics, or a related field.
A minimum of 4 years of relevant progressive experience in leadership, youth development, participation, and empowerment, including gender, with a Master's degree, or 8 years with a Bachelor's degree.
Proven experience in designing and delivering leadership and entrepreneurship training programs.
Strong knowledge of Guinea Bissau's youth ecosystem and previous working experience with youth institutions, government, or international organizations is an advantage.
Excellent facilitation, communication, and mentoring skills, with the ability to develop comprehensive training materials and assessment tools.
Strong understanding of the socio-economic context of Guinea-Bissau and the specific challenges faced by youth.
Ability to work effectively with youth from different cultures and backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as economics, Business Administration, sociology, Law, psychology, statistics, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to effectively deliver the training programs and support youth leaders in their development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant progressive experience in leadership, youth development, participation, and empowerment, particularly in gender-related contexts. Candidates with a Master's degree should have this level of experience, while those with a Bachelor's degree should have at least 8 years of relevant experience. This experience should include proven capabilities in designing and delivering training programs focused on leadership and entrepreneurship, as well as a strong understanding of the challenges faced by youth in Guinea-Bissau.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Guinea-Bissau. Additionally, an excellent command of written and spoken English or French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the consultant's ability to deliver training materials effectively.
Additional Notes: The consultancy assignment is expected to last for 3 months, starting as soon as possible in August 202
The work will be home-based, with field missions to different regions of Guinea-Bissau. The payment schedule is structured as follows: 40% upon completion of the Leadership Training deliverables, 40% upon completion of the Entrepreneurship and Business Development Training deliverables, and 20% upon completion of the Interns and Fellows training deliverables. All deliverables must be approved and validated by the UNFPA Assistant Representative before any payment is processed. The consultant will work under the direction of the UNFPA Assistant Representative, with direct supervision from the Adolescent and Youth Reproductive Health and Demographic Dividend Programme Analyst.
