Job Overview: The position is located within the News and Media Unit of the Communication and Public Information Department (DCOMM). The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for public communication and information, focusing on four main categories: managing the ILO's network with international media, proactively identifying key moments of journalistic interest to communicate about the ILO's work, producing high-quality multimedia products, and supporting media training for ILO staff. The role will report to the Head of the News and Media Unit and will collaborate closely with other DCOMM units and regional communication officers. The candidate is expected to apply the ILO's global communication strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization's programmatic needs, particularly in news and current affairs, and content creation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement the ILO's global communication strategy in line with programmatic needs, focusing on news and current affairs, and content creation.
Write, edit, and review materials for distribution, including news articles, press releases, speeches, digital news, human interest stories, and media launches, ensuring compliance with ILO guidelines and global journalistic standards of accuracy, balance, and objectivity.
Under the direction of the unit head, oversee the production of ILO multimedia products, such as podcasts, live productions, and multimedia content.
Proactively seek opportunities to insert messages about gender equality and other key ILO messages into the global media calendar, coordinating with technical departments and regions to propose ILO experts for interviews.
Organize media coverage and interviews for the Director-General and other ILO officials, co-leading media briefings at the Palais des Nations and internationally.
Provide technical knowledge and advice to senior officials and/or communication staff on public information, interview techniques, and media relations.
Perform other relevant tasks as assigned. These specific functions align with the generic job description for the ILO, which includes covering program work, identifying public information needs, developing communication strategies, preparing information materials, coordinating publication dissemination, collaborating on multimedia campaigns, and acting as a spokesperson for the program areas.
Required Qualifications: Education: A higher university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, liberal professions, or related disciplines, or equivalent. A first-level university degree (bachelor's or equivalent) in one of the mentioned fields is acceptable, provided there are two additional years of relevant experience beyond the experience indicated below. Experience: At least seven years of professional experience, including international experience, in digital content production, journalism, public information, or related fields. Experience in an international news environment as a writer, multimedia producer, reporter, or equivalent position is valued. Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written English, and a second working language (French, Spanish) of the Organization. Competencies: In addition to the core competencies related to the ILO, the following technical competencies are required: Excellent multimedia production skills, including for podcasts, human interest stories, blogs, and videos. Strong knowledge of global current affairs and the labor market. Excellent writing and editing skills in English with a proven track record of impactful storytelling. Knowledge of the ILO's mandate and programs, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse target audiences. Personal competencies include excellent analytical and negotiation skills, the ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment while demonstrating inclusive behavior and sensitivity to gender issues.

Additional Notes: The contract type is fixed-term, with the first contract being extended for a period of 24 months.
