Job Overview:
The FAO Regular Volunteer Programme offers individuals the opportunity to contribute their volunteer actions towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework. Volunteers will be assigned to fields relevant to FAO's mission and will report to an assigned supervisor. The programme aims to mobilize broad-based volunteer services from citizens of FAO member countries to support efforts in ending hunger and improving food security. Volunteers will engage in various tasks as outlined in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office, contributing to the transformation of agri-food systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and life.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteers will perform functions as specified in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office. This may include supporting projects related to food security, nutrition, agricultural development, and sustainable practices. Volunteers are expected to adapt to an international multicultural environment and demonstrate good communication skills. Specific tasks may vary based on the needs of the organization and the skills of the volunteer, but all volunteers will be expected to contribute positively to the FAO's mission and objectives.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education and possess a working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish). Knowledge of a second FAO language is considered an asset. Candidates should be nationals of FAO member countries, aged 18 or older, and able to adapt to an international multicultural environment. Good communication skills are essential, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to FAO's values of integrity and transparency.
Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. Additional qualifications or certifications relevant to the field of work may enhance a candidate's application, but are not mandatory.
Experience:
Relevant working or research experience in one of the fields of the Organization is preferred. However, the programme is open to individuals who may not have extensive experience but are eager to contribute and learn. The emphasis is on the ability to adapt and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Languages:
A working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) is mandatory. Knowledge of a second FAO language is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
