Job Overview: The intern will work with the UNEP FI climate team and regional teams to scale up and develop climate mitigation initiatives for commercial banks, insurers, and asset owners in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. The role involves supporting the organization and delivery of engagement with financial institutions to raise awareness and build capacity in climate mitigation. The intern will also assist in conducting regional analyses to identify gaps in climate transition capabilities and support the development of training materials and capacity-building initiatives. This position is crucial for advancing the climate transition of the financial system and aligning financial institutions with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include supporting the organization, planning, and delivery of bilateral and collective engagements with banks, insurers, and asset owners. They will conduct regional analyses of existing climate transition capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize capacity-building needs. The intern will assist in delivering the APAC climate plan, design training materials, and support various forms of capacity-building work. Additionally, they will help organize events for financial sector decarbonization, conduct maturity analyses of emissions data capabilities, and identify potential partners for gathering country-specific data. Administrative tasks and preparing reporting materials will also be part of their duties, along with translating global UNEP FI materials to the local context.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. A field of study closely related to the internship is required, and proof of enrollment or graduation date must be provided if selected.
Educational Background: Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in finance, environmental science, business administration, international relations, financial services, or environmental affairs. The internship is open to second/third-year undergraduates or recent graduates, and applicants must provide proof of their academic status.
Experience: No professional work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates should have relevant academic training or coursework that aligns with the internship's focus on climate finance and environmental sustainability.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) is considered desirable but not mandatory.
