Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within UNEP's Communication Division is designed to support various communication activities related to significant initiatives such as World Environment Day, Champions of the Earth, and the UN Environment Assembly. Interns will work under the guidance of the Chief of Section for Public Advocacy and Communications and the Communications Lead for Special Events. The role is crucial for enhancing UNEP's outreach and communication strategies, ensuring that the organization's messages are effectively conveyed to the public and stakeholders. Interns will be involved in generating communication materials, coordinating projects, managing partnerships, and supporting public advocacy campaigns, all of which are essential for promoting UNEP's mission and priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: generating communication materials such as meeting notes, email responses, draft background papers, graphics, and digital analyses; assisting in coordination within the Division and across other departments for various projects; managing partnerships for key events like World Environment Day and the UN Environment Assembly; supporting outreach activities for public advocacy campaigns; organizing internal and external meetings and events; drafting wrap-up reports and managing day-to-day communication of campaign activities; providing administrative, project management, and information management support; and carrying out other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Preferred areas of study include Communications, Information Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Media Studies, Journalism, or related fields. No prior work experience is required, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.
Experience: No professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is advantageous. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, and knowledge of other official languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish is beneficial.
