Job Overview: The WASH/Shelter team leader is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the CC Project, ensuring that all activities are carried out according to the plan of action. This role involves overseeing the WASH/shelter project field staff, ensuring adherence to organizational policies, and promoting technical improvements. The team leader will also be responsible for liaising with local authorities and stakeholders, ensuring that the needs of the target beneficiaries are met, and exploring new ways to assist them. The position requires a strong focus on capacity building, project management, and collaboration with other sectors within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
Implement the delegated CC project portfolio according to the plan of action.
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
Ensure proper filing of documents.
Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore new ways to assist.
Line management of WASH/shelter project field staff.
Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills.
Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders. 1
Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy. 1
Ensure minimum standards of technical quality in all activities and interventions. 1
Undertake contract management and tendering processes for WASH hardware and software activities. 1
Plan, lead, and implement NRC WASH/shelter activities in the Benishangul Gumuz Region. 1
Ensure that assessment, design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, and implementation consider needs and vulnerabilities in the region. 1
Ensure that WASH/shelter program design is informed by and integrated with NRC’s other priority sectors. 1
Prepare and oversee the implementation process to ensure timely delivery of program activities. 1
Prepare timely financial and narrative reports on project activities. 1
Ensure appropriate management and use of NRC resources. 1
Manage project staff on a day-to-day level. 2
Coordinate NRC’s work in WASH/shelter programming with other agencies and represent the organization at meetings. 2
Conduct beneficiary targeting, selection, and verification. 2
Involve in multi-sectoral assessments and data collection activities. 2
Oversee all shelter construction at IDP sites or refugee camps. 2
Conduct technical assessments and develop safe and inclusive designs. 2
Implement integrated programming at the field level. 2
Lead the mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues across different project areas. 2
Conduct regular monitoring visits to project sites. 2
Develop durable water supply solutions and environmentally friendly shelter solutions. 2

Monitor budgets for all WASH/shelter grants and act on under and overspending. 3
Reconcile documentation for all WASH/shelter activities.
Required Qualifications:
Degree in Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or related fields.
5 years of experience working as a WASH team leader or similar in a humanitarian/recovery context with an INGO.
Experience in implementing integrated WASH activities (both software and hardware).
Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts.
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
Educational Background: A degree in a relevant field such as Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Hydrology is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary technical knowledge and skills to effectively manage WASH and shelter projects.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a similar role, particularly in humanitarian or recovery contexts. Experience with integrated WASH activities and working in complex environments is essential. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing projects and leading teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both written and verbal. Knowledge of local languages in the Benishangul Gumuz Region is considered an advantage, as it can facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Assosa, Ethiopia, with a duty station that may require 50% travel. The contract duration is for 8 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and funding availability. The role is full-time and involves managing a team of WASH/shelter officers and technical assistants.
