Job Overview:
The Programme Support Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of FAO's resilience agenda at various levels, including global, regional, subregional, and country levels. This position involves conducting research, providing analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis, and managing office-related services to facilitate the delivery of FAO's programs, products, and services. The specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating assigned programs and projects, monitoring their progress, and analyzing their development. The role also includes assisting in policy development, preparing written outputs, conducting outreach activities, and coordinating budget-related activities. The specialist will lead initiatives to support Country Offices in utilizing contextual analysis for program development across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, ensuring that programs are needs and risk-informed, and promoting collaborative work with various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programs/projects, monitoring and analyzing their progress.
  • Review relevant documents and reports, identify problems, propose corrective actions, and liaise with relevant parties.
  • Assist in policy development through the review and analysis of issues and trends, and prepare impact evaluations or equivalent studies.
  • Prepare various written outputs, including drafts of background papers, analyses, sections of reports, and inputs to publications.
  • Conduct outreach activities, including training workshops and seminars, and make presentations on assigned topics.
  • Coordinate activities related to budget and funding, including program/project preparation, progress reports, and financial statements.
  • Lead initiatives to support Country Offices in systematizing the use of contextual analysis for program development.
  • Coordinate support for the formulation of high-quality, needs-informed programs and strategies.
  • Implement and strengthen a programming support model in partnership with regional and subregional emergency and resilience teams. 1
  • Develop and promote joint products on key thematic priorities and oversee knowledge management and capacity development activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have experience in coordination, decentralization, program or office management information, and/or knowledge management at the international level. They should possess competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing. Technical and functional skills required include work experience in multiple locations or areas of work, particularly in field positions, and experience in humanitarian contexts.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in fields related to international development, public administration, or a similar area. Advanced degrees may be preferred for certain roles within the organization.

Experience:
Candidates should have a significant level of experience in coordination and program management, particularly in international settings. Experience in humanitarian contexts is essential, and prior work in multiple locations or field positions is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions of operation, is considered an asset.
