Sightsavers aims to enable access to quality health and education, lead the elimination of debilitating diseases, and advocate for disability rights.
Job Overview: The Disability Inclusion Technical Advisor will provide technical assistance as part of the WISH2 programme, overseeing the design and implementation of activities in Mali. This role is crucial for managing the delivery of Sightsavers’ scope of work, ensuring equitable access to services for persons with disabilities. The advisor will also provide targeted regional technical assistance to partners across Chad, DRC, Mauritania, and Niger, promoting disability inclusion in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services and systems. The position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the accessibility of healthcare services for women and girls with disabilities, and the advisor will coordinate closely with the Inclusive SRHR Technical Advisor to achieve these goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The key duties of the Disability Inclusion Technical Advisor include providing technical guidance to the WISH2 programme, overseeing the effective delivery of technical input and guidance on disability inclusion from Sightsavers to the leading agency and other partners in Mali. The advisor will coordinate the rollout of capacity building and training for staff and relevant participants, such as public healthcare providers and government officials, on various technical topics related to disability inclusion. Additionally, the advisor will build the capacity of consortium partners and key stakeholders to work with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Mali, provide technical support for conducting accessibility audits within selected public sexual reproductive healthcare facilities, and support the production of accessibility audit reports. The role also involves regional technical assistance and programme management.
Required Qualifications: To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a postgraduate qualification and equivalent practical experience in a relevant field such as social work, social inclusion, disability studies, public health, or international development. Proven experience in disability inclusive programming in low-resource settings is essential, along with prior experience in family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes, which is desirable. Candidates should have a strong understanding and proven technical knowledge in accessibility, disability mainstreaming, gender equity, and intersectionality. Experience in developing approaches aimed at reaching the most marginalized groups of people with disabilities is also desirable, as is experience in developing and adapting programme guidance tools and resource materials. Additionally, candidates should have experience in collating, synthesising, and disseminating best practice guidance, research, and programme learning.
Educational Background: Candidates are required to have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, which may include social work, social inclusion, disability studies, public health, or international development. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of disability inclusion and the specific needs of marginalized groups.
Experience: Candidates should have proven experience in disability inclusive programming, particularly in low-resource settings. Experience working in family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with OPDs and/or local governmental and non-governmental structures, as well as experience in developing and implementing training and capacity-building initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, as the advisor will need to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, but is not required.
Additional Notes: The position is a full-time role with some flexibility around hours worked and the possibility of some home working. The contract is for a two-year fixed-term with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be expected to travel frequently to project locations and regionally up to four times a year to support WISH2 project activities and partners.
