Job Overview:
The Situation-Specific Investigation Assistant (SSIA) will play a crucial role within the Unified Team (UT) investigating the Darfur situation. This position requires collaboration with investigators, analysts, and lawyers, under the supervision of the Head of the Unified Team and the Team Leader. The SSIA will be responsible for providing country-specific advice, assisting in the development of networks with local actors, and supporting the identification and interviewing of potential witnesses. The role also involves collecting various types of evidence, analyzing information, and participating in field missions. The SSIA must be adaptable, able to work under pressure, and maintain confidentiality while managing sensitive information. This position is vital for ensuring thorough investigations and supporting the ICC's mission to uphold justice.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SSIA will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing country-specific advice to the Unified Team on political, social, cultural, and gender matters relevant to the investigation.
  • Assisting in the development of networks with local actors, including civil society organizations and experts, to support the investigation.
  • Identifying potential witnesses, selecting, screening, and interviewing them while addressing their security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and welfare needs.
  • Collecting and selecting various types of evidence, including documents and information from web-based sources.
  • Collating, evaluating, and analyzing information and evidence in accordance with OTP standards and procedures.
  • Planning and participating in field missions, ensuring compliance with security and operational standards.
  • Testifying before the ICC Chambers when required.
  • Performing other relevant duties as assigned by the Unified Team.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a diploma of secondary education as a minimum. A university degree in Law or a related field is considered an asset. Additionally, training in investigative and analytical techniques is advantageous. Candidates must possess a minimum of eight years of relevant work experience, particularly in criminal investigations, prosecutions, or fact-finding with national or international organizations. Experience interacting with local actors in the context of the investigation is also essential. Candidates should demonstrate a good understanding of the Darfur situation and possess strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have at least a diploma of secondary education. A university degree in Law or a relevant field is preferred, and training in investigative techniques is an asset. The educational background should support the candidate's ability to engage in complex investigations and analyses.

Experience:
A minimum of eight years of relevant work experience is required for this position. Candidates with an advanced or first-level university degree may substitute two years of work experience for eligibility. Experience in criminal investigations, prosecutions, or fact-finding with various organizations is crucial, as is familiarity with local actors in the investigation context.

Languages:
Fluency in either English or French, the working languages of the ICC, is essential. Fluency in both languages is considered a strong asset. Additionally, fluency in Arabic is required, and knowledge of Fur, Masalit, or Zaghawa is considered advantageous.

Additional Notes:
This position is a Short-Term Appointment, with a minimum net annual salary of €52,72
  • The contract duration is to be determined, with a maximum duration of 12 months, including extensions. The ICC reserves the right to appoint at a lower grade or modify the job description as necessary. The selected candidate will undergo a Personnel Security Clearance process, which includes verification of personal history and a criminal record check.
