Job Overview:
The Accounting Manager at MSF Canada plays a crucial role in overseeing the organization's financial stewardship. This position involves supervising the daily accounting functions and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting. The manager will lead a team of three staff members, focusing on optimizing systems and procedures, providing necessary training, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. The role requires a proactive approach to managing the accounting and payroll processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and collaborating with budget-holders to maintain effective financial management. The Accounting Manager will also be responsible for liaising with the Director for audit management and statutory compliance, making recommendations for enhancements to accounting activities, and ensuring adherence to governmental policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely, accurate, and complete monthly accounting and payroll processes and reporting.
- Manage the Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll staff, providing training and leadership.
- Lead the budgeting and internal reporting processes, collaborating with budget-holders to ensure quality expense management.
- Liaise with the Director for audit management and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to accounting systems and activities for improved effectiveness and efficiency.
- Maintain knowledge of tax regulations and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax procedures.
- Create and customize financial reporting methods and procedures.
- Foster a positive team environment through effective team management and collaboration.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven accounting management experience in industry, non-profit, or accounting firm.
- Strong team management skills with the ability to lead and develop staff.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools.
- Proficiency in financial and accounting systems relevant to the organization.
- Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to identify and resolve organizational problems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
- Knowledge of budgeting processes and payroll management.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an accounting designation, such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or an equivalent qualification. This educational background is essential for understanding complex financial regulations and practices necessary for the role.
Experience:
The position requires significant experience in accounting management, ideally within the non-profit sector or an accounting firm. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing teams and overseeing financial operations, demonstrating their ability to lead effectively and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Languages:
Proficiency in verbal and written English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes:
This is a permanent position with a full-time activity rate of 100%, equating to 37.5 hours per week. The base salary for this role is set at Level 16 on the MSF Canada Salary Grid, ranging from $87,850 to $94,358 per year, which is non-negotiable. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada, as MSF Canada cannot support work permit processes for applicants outside of Canada. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a Health Spending Account, group insurance, a 5% RRSP contribution, four weeks of vacation per year, flexible work hours, and an annual professional development budget.
