Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands, specifically within the Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications. The intern will work under the direct authority of the Head of the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department. The primary focus of this internship is on the Security of Next Generation Satellite Communications Systems. The intern will support the 4S team in identifying and developing innovative and competitive system concepts and technology solutions to ensure secure and resilient satellite communications systems. This role involves engaging in business development, strategy formulation, and technical roadmap definition, as well as reviewing technical proposals from industry and preparing reports for upper management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Supporting the 4S team in identifying business development opportunities and strategies.
- Assisting in the definition of technical roadmaps for satellite communication systems.
- Reviewing and assessing technical proposals received from industry for new activities.
- Preparing reports for upper management regarding new initiatives, projects, and activities, providing feedback and guidance.
- Collaborating with other ESA directorates and security offices to ensure integrated support for the Safety and Security from Space Programme.
- Engaging in monitoring and evaluating the progress of established projects and initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another Member State language is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a background in (cyber) security technologies, protocols, and engineering, which is advantageous for this role.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a university student, ideally pursuing a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, or a related discipline. The candidate should be in their final or second-to-last year of study and must maintain their enrollment throughout the internship period.
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in cybersecurity, satellite communications, or related fields would be beneficial. Interns are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the fast-paced environment of the space industry, particularly in the context of safety and security.
Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is either English or French, with a good command of one being essential. Knowledge of an additional language from another ESA Member State is considered a valuable asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse workforce of ESA.
