Job Overview:
The Construction Engineering Technician- Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting senior engineers in the management of public infrastructure projects. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget while meeting quality standards. The assistant will engage in project administration, including procurement, finance, and human resources management. They will also assist in the planning and design of new projects, prepare design documentation, and review designs prepared by others. The role requires participation in site visits, contract management, and project procurement, ensuring compliance with environmental and social management systems. This position is integral to the successful delivery of projects that aim to enhance infrastructure and community development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Project Manager and project staff in managing projects to ensure timely completion and adherence to budget and quality expectations.
  • Carry out project administration tasks, including procurement, finance, and human resources management.
  • Assist in planning and designing new projects, including preparing project proposals and documentation.
  • Prepare design documentation for construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of public infrastructure.
  • Review designs from other personnel and provide constructive feedback for improvements.
  • Prepare design reports, progress reports, and other technical documentation under senior supervision.
  • Participate in site visits with senior engineers to monitor construction activities.
  • Assist in contract management, including site measurements, contract variations, QA/QC inspections, and maintaining site records.
  • Support project procurement processes, including preparing tender documents, conducting tendering, and negotiating contracts. 1
  • Implement client and World Bank environmental and social management systems, ensuring high health and safety standards on construction sites.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a recent graduate from a recognized university with a BSc in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Basic proficiency in contemporary computer applications is required.
  • A high school diploma with an additional four years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from a recognized university. Alternatively, a high school diploma combined with four years of relevant experience in construction or engineering may be considered sufficient.

Experience:
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will qualify for the position. However, relevant experience in construction, project management, or engineering is also considered valuable. The role is suitable for recent graduates or individuals with practical experience in the field.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

This position does not involve team management responsibilities. The role is full-time and focuses on supporting project management and engineering tasks.
