Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director for Yemen will be responsible for implementing the Operational Strategy for 2026-27, ensuring that HI's activities are of optimal quality and impact. This role involves managing the organization’s operations in Yemen, which has been significantly affected by conflict and humanitarian crises. The Country Director will act as the legal representative of HI in Yemen, promoting the organization’s reputation and ensuring compliance with its policies and frameworks. The position requires a proactive approach to monitoring the context in Yemen, identifying risks and opportunities, and adapting strategies accordingly. The Country Director will also oversee the deployment of HI's full mandate and strategy in collaboration with operational partners, institutions, and donors, while steering organizational transformation in line with HI's global standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management: Establish a cohesive team environment, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members. Recruit and develop direct managers, set individual objectives, and monitor performance. Foster a culture of compliance with HI values and policies, and conduct regular Program Steering Committee meetings.
Deployment of HI Strategy: Develop and implement the Program’s Operational Strategy, ensuring alignment with HI’s global strategy and compliance with institutional policies. Maintain regular contact with donors and ensure effective resource allocation.
Legal Representation: Act as HI's representative in Yemen, engaging with local, national, and international authorities. Negotiate operational partnerships and ensure compliance with local regulations.
Influence and Leadership: Advocate for HI's global messages and develop local advocacy activities. Contribute to the evolution of HI's strategies and policies, ensuring effective communication and information dissemination.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have proven experience as a Country Director in complex contexts, demonstrating a strong understanding of emergency, development, and armed violence reduction actions. They should possess leadership qualities, be responsible decision-makers, and have the ability to simplify and prioritize tasks. Experience in managing multi-cultural and multi-sector teams is essential, along with fluency in English. Candidates should also share HI's vision, mandate, values, and strategy.
Educational Background: A relevant higher education degree is required for this position, ideally in fields related to international development, humanitarian assistance, or public administration. Additional certifications in project management or leadership may be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have significant experience in managing humanitarian or development programs, particularly in conflict-affected areas. Experience in risk management and understanding geopolitical issues related to Yemen is crucial. Proven track record in leading teams and implementing strategic initiatives is also required.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic or other relevant languages is considered an asset, as it can facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Sanaa, Yemen, with regular travel to Aden and other locations. The contract duration is between 18 to 24 months, starting from January 1, 202
The role is unaccompanied, and HI will cover travel costs, including air tickets and visa expenses. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from €3,232, a net monthly per diem of $558, and a hardship allowance of €50
