Job Overview:
The Gender Inclusion Officer will work under the supervision of the FSCP Manager, playing a crucial role in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of gender mainstreaming activities within the project. This position requires active engagement with local partners and stakeholders to ensure integrated and need-based service delivery. The officer will be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and reports, ensuring compliance with government and donor requirements. The role demands a combination of formal expertise in gender and disability mainstreaming, along with practical experience in applying these concepts to specific program sectors, particularly in education. The officer will also focus on the inclusion of protection measures against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and work towards ending harmful traditional practices (HTPs).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Gender Inclusion Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
- Developing and implementing gender-responsive programs, ensuring that gender equality and disability considerations are integrated into all project activities.
- Conducting training sessions on gender equality and disability mainstreaming for staff and local partners.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to address socio-cultural and gender norms that hinder education and participation in decision-making.
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of gender mainstreaming activities and providing technical support to partner organizations.
- Reporting on project activities and outcomes to the line manager and ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
- Participating in awareness sessions and capacity-building trainings related to Child and Youth Safeguarding (CYS).
- Reporting any suspicions or incidents related to CYS immediately, following established procedures.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA/MA in Gender and Development, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, International Development, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of direct international humanitarian field experience is required, along with professional and technical expertise relevant to the duties outlined. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience in managing GBV prevention and response programs, as well as familiarity with current standards and guidance for GBV prevention and response.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BA or MA in relevant fields such as Gender and Development, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, or International Development. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the necessary frameworks for addressing them in humanitarian contexts.
Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of direct international humanitarian field experience, particularly in gender equality integrated into other sectors, preferably education. Candidates should have proven experience in gender analysis, gender audits, and the development of high-quality gender equality programming in complex environments, ideally with international NGOs and implementing partners.
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with proficiency in local languages spoken in the Harari region. This linguistic capability is crucial for effective communication with local partners and stakeholders.
