Job Overview:
The Driver position at SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is crucial for the safe transportation of staff and cargo, as well as the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle. The role requires adherence to the organization's policies and procedures, ensuring that all driving assignments are executed efficiently and safely. The Driver will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and operational safety of the vehicle, conducting weekly checks, and initiating necessary repairs and maintenance. This position is integral to the operations department and involves close collaboration with the HR and Project Coordinator to ensure that all driving assignments are coordinated effectively. The Driver will also participate in child safeguarding initiatives, ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young people during transportation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Driver include: driving the assigned project vehicle daily as per the supervisor's instructions, ensuring the cleanliness of the vehicle, conducting weekly operational checks on the vehicle's essential components (oil, radiator, fan belt, brake fluid, wipers, tires, lights, and signals), initiating and supervising repairs and routine maintenance, fulfilling project reporting requirements, maintaining vehicle logs and records, ensuring passenger safety by obeying traffic laws, and participating in child safeguarding training and awareness sessions. The Driver is also responsible for reporting any child safeguarding concerns or incidents immediately, following the organization's reporting procedures.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires the completion of primary school education, with English literacy and numeracy skills being essential. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of driving experience, preferably in an NGO setting. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are mandatory, along with an understanding of auto mechanics. Certification in mechanics or automobile maintenance is considered beneficial. The candidate must be in good physical health, available for overtime work and field travel, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed primary school education. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required to ensure effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of driving experience is required for this position. Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is highly preferred, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational environment and the specific challenges faced in humanitarian contexts.
Languages:
English is the mandatory language for this position, with good communication skills being essential. Proficiency in additional local languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
