The organization operates globally, providing independent, multi-sectoral analysis to better understand and address the needs of crisis-affected populations. ACAPS has a decentralized global team and conducts analysis on crises in various countries, including Afghanistan, Colombia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ukraine, and Yemen, with a focus on high-quality, independent analysis to guide resource prioritization and programmatic responses. The Sudan Analysis Hub was established in August 2023 to provide integrated independent analysis to support the humanitarian response in Sudan, with a dedicated team of analysts and data experts.
Job Overview: The Information Analyst position is designed for individuals interested in a career in the humanitarian sector, focusing on qualitative and quantitative analysis, humanitarian planning, and evidence-based decision-making. The role involves contributing to ACAPS' timely analysis of humanitarian crises, particularly in Sudan, and developing knowledge in analysis techniques such as secondary data review, joint analysis, and data management. The analyst will produce various reports, including humanitarian needs analysis and thematic analysis, to support crisis responders in making informed decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Analyst will be responsible for conducting research and analysis on political, economic, social, and humanitarian developments in the East Africa region, specifically Sudan. This includes designing and writing analytical reports, supporting the development of ACAPS knowledge on data collection and reporting, and building a network of key informants to enhance analysis quality. Specific tasks include reviewing and synthesizing assessments and reports on humanitarian crises in Sudan, leading the design and delivery of analytical products, maintaining information management systems, and establishing a network of informants for ongoing research and analysis. The analyst will also participate in regional meetings related to Sudan and may take on additional tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a relevant Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in relevant sectors such as humanitarian action, social sciences, international relations, or public health. A minimum of 2 years of experience in research, analysis, information management, or advocacy in the humanitarian sector or related fields is required. Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, strong written communication skills, and the ability to interpret ambiguous data are essential. Familiarity with emergency preparedness principles and needs assessments in humanitarian crises is also necessary.
Educational Background: A relevant Master’s degree is preferred, but candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and significant experience in related fields will also be considered. Educational backgrounds in social sciences, international relations, public health, or similar disciplines are particularly relevant for this position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in research, analysis, information management, or advocacy within the humanitarian sector or related fields. Candidates should have a strong understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research methods and experience handling large datasets.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and sources of information.
Additional Notes: The position is a fixed-term contract with a 100% commitment. Candidates must have the right to live and work in the specified duty stations, which include Bangladesh, Kenya, Jordan, Senegal, and Ukraine. The starting date for the position is as soon as possible, with an emphasis on immediate availability. The role does not require travel but may involve ad hoc travel as necessary.
