Job Overview: The Communications Specialist will play a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility and impact of SEforALL's initiatives. This position involves liaising with various focal points within the organization to generate and develop compelling story ideas that align with the themes of sustainable energy, climate change, and development. The specialist will be responsible for researching and drafting a wide range of communication materials, including multimedia content, op-eds, speeches, news articles, and position papers that support SEforALL's advocacy goals. Additionally, the role includes managing website content to ensure consistent messaging and timely updates, as well as producing content for the organization's monthly newsletter. The specialist will also draft the annual report and coordinate the production pipeline for reports and design-related workflows, ensuring that all communications adhere to SEforALL's brand standards and effectively engage key audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Liaise with focal points across the organization to source and develop story ideas related to sustainable energy, climate, and development.
Research and draft various communication materials, including multimedia content, op-eds, short video scripts, speeches, news articles, position papers, briefing notes, and concept notes.
Manage website content to ensure it reflects consistent messaging and is regularly updated, including creating and maintaining a content calendar.
Write clearly and succinctly to elicit positive actions and reactions from key audiences while adhering to SEforALL's brand standards.
Draft media pitches and background documents to prepare for media interviews.
Produce content for the monthly SEforALL newsletter, disseminated through Mailchimp and LinkedIn.
Draft the annual report and coordinate the production pipeline of reports and other design-related workflows.
Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree in communications, journalism, business studies, public policy, climate, sustainable energy, or a related field is required.
Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in the aforementioned fields with an additional two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master's degree.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in speech writing, news writing, and content editing for complex communications products is required.
Experience in the climate, sustainable energy, or development sector is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in communications, journalism, business studies, public policy, climate, sustainable energy, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in these fields, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, may be accepted in lieu of the Master's degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in areas such as speech writing, news writing, and content editing. Candidates should have experience in producing complex communications products that are structured, clear, logical, and persuasive. Additionally, experience in the climate, sustainable energy, or development sector is required to effectively contribute to SEforALL's mission.
Languages: Fluency in English, encompassing reading, writing, and speaking, is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse international environment.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an International Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) at the IICA-1 level, with an ongoing contract duration.
