Job Overview:
The position of National Climate Vulnerability & Risk Assessment Consultant is crucial for the project titled 'Fourth National Communication & Second Biennial Update Report' in Yemen. This project aims to address climate change issues and assist Yemen in fulfilling its commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The consultant will conduct a climate vulnerability and risk assessment on agriculture in a selected pilot area, which will be identified in consultation with the Project Manager (PM). The assignment will span five months over an eight-month period, during which the consultant will work closely with the PM and the Climate Change, Energy, & Environment Team Leader. The consultant's work will involve literature reviews, data collection, field visits, and collaboration with other consultants to ensure comprehensive assessments and recommendations for adaptation measures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for preparing a detailed work plan, leading a team of experts, selecting methodologies for the study, and producing a list of existing studies on climate change impacts on agriculture in Yemen. They will identify pilot areas, assess livelihoods and land use patterns, evaluate the quality of available climate data, and analyze the potential impacts of climate change on agriculture and vulnerable groups. The consultant will also propose sustainable land and agriculture management practices, engage with local government agencies and communities, and ensure gender representation in consultations. They will provide periodic progress reports, consolidate findings into a working document for a national workshop, and prepare the final report, including a chapter on Agriculture Vulnerability & Adaptation for the Fourth National Communication.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an MSc in agriculture, environment, natural resources, or a related field, along with a minimum of seven years of relevant working experience in climate change and agriculture. They should have substantial experience in preparing similar studies, a strong understanding of vulnerability and adaptation models and tools, and demonstrable knowledge of MCA, GIS, and SWAT. The ability to conduct analytical and drafting work is essential, as is familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Fluency in both written and oral English and Arabic is mandatory.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Master's degree (MSc) in agriculture, environment, natural resources, or another relevant field that aligns with the project's objectives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of professional experience in areas related to climate change and agriculture, with a focus on vulnerability and adaptation assessments. Candidates should have a proven track record of involvement in similar studies and projects.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is mandatory for this role. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
