Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany, which serves as the main mission control center for the European Space Agency (ESA). The Strategy and Transformation Office plays a crucial role in formulating and preparing strategies in collaboration with the Director of Operations and the Management Team. The intern will be involved in various tasks that support the office's mission, including innovation support, strategic planning, and fostering partnerships with academia and industry. The intern will also assist in managing the Directorate’s governance processes and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Directorate of Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for supporting the ESOC Innovation Officer in a variety of tasks. This includes chairing the Innovation Management Committee, collaborating with the ESA Business Incubation Centre Hessen, and engaging with startups, established corporations, research institutions, and universities. Specific duties will involve problem-solving, conducting desk research, drafting and reviewing documentation, and organizing events such as regular innovation meetups. Depending on the intern's prior experience, they may also be assigned larger tasks, such as managing an end-to-end work stream for ongoing projects. Additionally, the intern will help in formulating and evolving the Directorate’s overall strategy and coordinating strategic planning and implementation of research and technology activities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A background in STEM is considered an asset, although an engineering background is not essential. MBA students are also encouraged to apply. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally at the Master’s level. The internship is suitable for students in various fields, particularly those related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as business administration (MBA).
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with relevant experience in innovation management, project management, or strategic planning will be preferred. The internship is designed for students, so the expectation is that candidates will be gaining practical experience rather than having extensive professional backgrounds.
Languages:
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is mandatory, while knowledge of another language from a Member State is considered advantageous.
