Job Overview: The Lead Conference Rapporteur will play a crucial role in documenting the proceedings of a three-day conference aimed at enhancing access to climate information and promoting gender-inclusive governance. This position requires a deep understanding of climate change issues, particularly as they relate to vulnerable communities, including women and marginalized groups. The rapporteur will be responsible for developing comprehensive reports that capture the discussions, recommendations, and challenges identified during the conference. The role also involves translating key documents into Swahili to ensure accessibility for local stakeholders. The rapporteur will work closely with IDLO and partner organizations to ensure that the conference outcomes are effectively communicated and utilized to inform future policies and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the Lead Conference Rapporteur for the regional conference on enhancing access to climate information and gender-inclusive governance from December 3rd to 6th, 202
Develop a conference policy communique based on the recommendations discussed during the conference, to be completed by December 5th, 202
Compile and produce consolidated conference reports that include proceedings and recommendations by January 30th, 202
Create County Progress Reports that highlight impactful interventions on climate change for Isiolo and Marsabit counties, including a newsletter as an addendum, due by April 30th, 202
Translate the County Progress Reports into Swahili by April 30th, 202
Collaborate with conference organizers and participants to ensure accurate representation of discussions and outcomes.
Conduct thorough research and analysis to support the development of reports and recommendations.
Meet all deadlines and deliverables as outlined in the assignment.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree in law, gender studies, environmental studies, public policy, governance, or a related field.
Proven experience in facilitating or serving as a rapporteur for high-level events, particularly in the context of climate change and gender issues.
In-depth knowledge of climate change, gender dynamics, access to information, and governance challenges in Kenya.
Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise reports.
Excellent written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet tight deadlines.
Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a university degree in a relevant field such as law, gender studies, environmental studies, public policy, or governance. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of climate change and its intersection with gender and governance issues.
Experience: The position requires proven experience in facilitating or serving as a rapporteur for similar high-level events. Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of working on climate change, gender, and governance issues, particularly within the Kenyan context. Experience in producing reports and policy documents is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Swahili is highly desirable, especially for the translation of reports. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
