Job Overview: The Private Partnerships Officer will work under the supervision of the Partnerships Specialist, closely collaborating with the Coordination, technical program sections, and the Communication & Advocacy unit. The primary focus of this role is to support the development and expansion of partnerships with the private sector, particularly with businesses in Mauritania. The officer will play a crucial role in mobilizing resources and influencing private sector decisions that affect children's rights in the country. This position requires a proactive approach to establishing and formalizing partnerships with both foreign and local businesses, as well as foundations, to enhance UNICEF's impact on children's rights and welfare in Mauritania.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Private Partnerships Officer will be responsible for several key tasks, including: 1) Supporting the management and the Partnerships Specialist in establishing an engagement platform with business leaders; 2) Exploring opportunities to formalize partnerships between UNICEF Mauritania and the private sector, including both foreign companies operating in Mauritania and local Mauritanian businesses and foundations; 3) Identifying internal collaboration opportunities with the private sector to achieve child rights objectives; 4) Strengthening the partnership between UNICEF and the private sector in Mauritania, particularly in the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives; 5) Monitoring the implementation of the office's roadmap regarding partnerships with the private sector; 6) Managing knowledge and documenting relevant materials on UNICEF's internal platforms; 7) Executing other related tasks assigned by the supervisor. The officer will contribute to the development and strengthening of UNICEF Mauritania's private partnerships, which will directly support resource mobilization and influence private sector engagement to respect and improve children's rights in Mauritania.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including business leaders and government officials. A demonstrated understanding of the private sector's role in social responsibility and child rights advocacy is essential. The ideal candidate should also have experience in partnership development, resource mobilization, and project management, along with a proven track record of successful collaboration with private entities.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in business administration, social sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, as it demonstrates a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in private partnerships and child rights advocacy.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in partnership development, resource mobilization, or related fields, preferably within the non-profit or international development sectors. Experience working with private sector organizations and understanding their operational dynamics is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Mauritania. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it facilitates engagement with international partners and stakeholders. Knowledge of Arabic would be an added advantage, enhancing communication with local partners.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and may involve occasional travel within Mauritania to engage with partners and stakeholders. The role is classified at a seniority level that requires a strategic mindset and the ability to influence decision-making processes.
