Job Overview: The consultancy aims to support the integration of migrant health into broader public health and social protection systems. This involves addressing the immediate health and social care needs of migrants while establishing sustainable frameworks to respond to the long-term impacts of climate change on migration patterns in the Western Pacific Region. The consultant will work on improving surge planning for health in urban and educational settings, enhancing evidence-based decision-making through disaggregated, equity-minded data, and conducting advocacy to raise awareness and foster support for migrant health. The role is crucial in addressing the unique health challenges faced by mobile populations, particularly in the context of climate change and social determinants of health.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for several key outputs: 1) Building evidence on the health impacts of migration and displacement, including reviewing existing data, updating health equity profiles, and providing technical assistance to local researchers. 2) Addressing social determinants of migrant health with a focus on climate change, which includes supporting regional studies, developing toolkits for multisectoral action, and planning for health needs in cities and schools. 3) Strengthening awareness and advocacy for migrant health by facilitating advocacy sessions, documenting good practices, and engaging stakeholders to implement effective advocacy strategies. The consultant will also be expected to collaborate with various stakeholders and contribute to the overall goals of WHO in promoting migrant health as a regional priority.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a first university degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field as essential qualifications. An advanced university degree in these fields is desirable. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of combined national and international experience in public health, with at least three years specifically focused on health and migration. Additional experience in social determinants of health, health inequities, community engagement, and gender equality is also desirable. Relevant experience working with the UN or international organizations, particularly with WHO, is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a first university degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field. An advanced degree in these areas is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of complex public health issues.
Experience: The consultant is expected to have a minimum of 5 years of experience in public health, which should include at least three years specifically related to health and migration. This experience should encompass both national and international contexts, demonstrating the ability to navigate diverse health systems and understand the unique challenges faced by migrant populations. Additional experience in related fields such as social determinants of health and community engagement is considered beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration in a diverse international environment.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to last for 11 months, from February to December 2025, with a remuneration range of USD 7,000 - USD 8,000 per month. The consultant will be required to travel to various sites for relevant activities, such as consultations and training.
