The UAE Liaison Office for the GCC was inaugurated in 2016 and focuses on advocacy, resource mobilization, and partnership coordination to drive UN Women's strategic priorities in the GCC region. The office serves as a liaison between UN Women and stakeholders in the private sector, government, academia, and non-profits across the region.
Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women involves providing reliable and safe driving services to the Head of Office and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors. The incumbent is expected to maintain the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility while demonstrating excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The role requires a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. Additionally, the Driver may be tasked with providing transportation services to operations and program staff, consultants, experts, and UN staff on mission, ensuring that all driving activities are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver is responsible for a variety of tasks including:
Providing reliable and secure driving services for the UN Women Head of Office and other high-ranking officials, ensuring safe transport for visitors and staff.
Delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other items to various government offices, embassies, commercial establishments, and UN offices.
Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities as required.
Ensuring that all passengers wear seatbelts at all times and overseeing immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Maintaining vehicle logs, including daily mileage, gas consumption, and servicing records.
Ensuring that all official vehicles are kept clean and in good working condition, performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs as necessary.
Maintaining all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance, vehicle logs, and first aid kits.
Providing general administrative and logistic support to office staff as needed, including filing, photocopying, and assisting with the distribution of publications and payments of bills.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Completion of secondary education is mandatory.
A valid driver’s license is essential.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a proven safe driving record is required.
Strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions is necessary.
Excellent driving skills and strong defensive driving abilities are essential.
Skills in minor vehicle repairs are advantageous.
The ability to be punctual and reliable is crucial for this role.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary education, which serves as the foundational educational requirement for this position. This educational background ensures that the candidate possesses the necessary literacy and numeracy skills to perform the job effectively, including maintaining vehicle logs and understanding driving regulations.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a driver, specifically within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. This experience should include a demonstrated safe driving record, showcasing the candidate's ability to navigate various driving conditions and adhere to safety protocols. Experience in handling VIP transportation and familiarity with the local area are also beneficial.
Languages: Arabic is the essential language for this position, as it is necessary for communication within the UAE context. A working knowledge of English is desirable, facilitating communication with international staff and stakeholders. Additionally, knowledge of another UN official working language such as French, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish is considered advantageous, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in a multilingual environment.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a GS fixed-term appointment (FTA) and temporary appointment (TA) and is open to UAE nationals or candidates with the requisite work permit or a valid visa based on current employment in the UN in the UAE.
