Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Child Protection Officer will play a crucial role in implementing UNICEF's child protection initiatives in Angola. This position focuses on strengthening birth registration services, enhancing the child protection system to prevent and respond to violence against children, and addressing issues such as teenage pregnancy and child marriage. The officer will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16.2, which aims to end violence against children, and SDG 16.9, which seeks to provide legal identity for all, including free birth registrations. The role involves strategic planning, program development, and operational support to ensure effective implementation of child protection programs, with a strong emphasis on equity and the rights of the most disadvantaged children.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake various tasks under the supervision of the Chief Child Protection, including:
  • Supporting program development and planning by participating in strategic discussions, contributing to the establishment of program goals and objectives, and providing technical support throughout programming processes.
  • Offering technical and operational support to ensure smooth implementation of the Child Protection Programme, focusing on violence against children and the prevention of teenage pregnancy and child marriage.
  • Conducting regular field visits and assessments to monitor progress, resolve issues, and provide training to government and NGO partners on UNICEF policies and best practices.
  • Building partnerships with government counterparts and stakeholders, preparing donor reports, and developing fundraising proposals.
  • Overseeing research on violence against children and supporting the development of an Integrated Information Management System for data collection.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in project management and knowledge of child protection issues are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to children's rights and equity, with a focus on the most disadvantaged populations. Experience in working with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations is highly desirable.
