Selection of staff is made on a competitive basis, and we are committed to promoting diversity and gender balance Job Title: Junior Consultant Country Support Coalition Type of Contract: Consultancy Division: SBP  – School Based Programmes Division Duty Station (City, Country): HQ Rome, Italy Duration: 6 months BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: With over 60 years' experience in School Feeding, WFP has a trajectory of working with more than 100 countries to set up sustainable national school feeding programmes. In the context of COVID-19 we are at the forefront of supporting governments in planning for the safe re-opening of schools and making sure that meals and health services reach the ones that need it the most. Our school feeding programmes not only provide the basics of nutritional food but serve as a powerful incentive for children to return to school. Today, millions of children living in poor and vulnerable communities don’t have regular access to the nutritious food they need to stay healthy and thrive. This affects their physical and mental development and can keep them from finishing school and building the strong future they deserve. WFP advocates for the universal adoption of school feeding programmes as a safety net that helps increase children’s access to education and learning opportunities and strengthens their health and nutrition status. WFP focuses increasingly on helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes. In countries still requiring WFP’s operational support, it implements school feeding programmes with clear hand over strategies. WFP is supporting governments and partners in establishing a school meals coalition, which will be launched later this year in September. The coalition will work to ensure that every vulnerable child has access to school meals in every country by 2030. It will help to address the COVID-19 pandemic by bringing together governments, United Nations agencies, civil society, the private sector and academia to drive actions that can urgently re-establish, improve and scale-up school meals programs everywhere. This is an exciting and ambitious endeavor, to which WFP is providing technical, coordinating and convening assistance. As Junior Consultant in the school-based programmes team you will gain experience in the humanitarian and development sector by working and contributing to a multidisciplinary team. You will support the establishment of the global coalition by supporting regional and country partners to attract policy support, commitment and mobilize resources. Through your "hands on" and "make it happen" attitude and by sharing your own thoughts and ideas with the team, you will contribute significantly to advancing school feeding programmes worldwide and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential and thrive. DESIDERED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

• Possess at least 2 years’ experience in partnership or communications related work.
• Consultant should have prior experience in writing and editing long-form content, including but not limited to articles, blogs and/or newsletters and a strong attention to details.
• Working knowledge on UN communication products, writing standards and terminology is an asset.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS: Education: First University degree in Social Science, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or relevant field. Languages: International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese. Desirable software skills: Expertise with data visualization software (Tableau, Power Bi, others), proficiency with quantitative analysis tools (Excel, others) and excellent information technology skills (Microsoft Office Package, SharePoint, Teams).
