Job Overview: The UN intern-programme-management" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Intern Programme Management position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) within the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG). Interns will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by engaging in various projects and initiatives that align with the SDGs. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international relations, policy analysis, and event organization while working closely with senior officials and UN agencies. Interns will be expected to provide policy analysis, monitor global trends, prepare analytical reports, and assist in organizing meetings and events, thereby contributing to the UN's mission of promoting sustainable development worldwide.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a wide range of duties that support the work of the Sustainable Development Unit. These include: 1) Conducting policy analysis to aid in the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and collaborating with various divisions within the EOSG and UN agencies. 2) Monitoring and analyzing global trends related to sustainable development, focusing on thematic areas such as financing for development, environment, health, gender, governance, sustainable food systems, education, and SDG acceleration. 3) Preparing analytical reports, papers, and background notes to support the SDU's initiatives. 4) Assisting in the organization of meetings, events, and summits for senior officials, ensuring that all logistical and preparatory aspects are managed effectively. 5) Supporting the transition of new UN Senior Leadership and contributing to the overall strategic engagement of the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General on sustainable development issues.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: 1) Be enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate (Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent, Ph.D. or post-graduate degree). 2) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level). 3) Work experience is not required, but relevant training, education, or skills that can benefit the UN during the internship are desirable. 4) Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is preferred. 5) Experience in report editing, drafting news articles, or social media posts is advantageous, as is knowledge in data analysis using statistical software or AI-assisted tools.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a relevant educational background that aligns with the requirements of the internship. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level. The focus should be on fields related to international relations, public policy, sustainable development, or other relevant disciplines that would provide the necessary skills and knowledge for the internship role.
Experience: While prior work experience is not a prerequisite for applying to the United Nations Internship Programme, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge that can contribute to the organization's goals.
