Job Posting Organization:
The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) was established in 2015 during the COP that adopted the Paris Agreement. Its mission is to support the implementation of the Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework. ICAT provides countries with tailored support and practical tools and methodologies to build robust transparency frameworks necessary for effective climate action, aligning with national development priorities. The organization operates globally, providing support in areas such as building transparency frameworks for mitigation, monitoring and evaluation for adaptation, and tracking progress in implementing nationally determined contributions. ICAT is managed by UNOPS on behalf of a multi-stakeholder partnership steered by a Donor Steering Committee that includes donors from Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and Climate Works Foundation. The organization has a strong portfolio, managing over USD 500 million in initiatives over the last 15 years, focusing on climate action and environmental conservation.

Job Overview:
The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will support the ICAT Secretariat in enhancing global climate transparency communications. This role involves managing social media, website content, and digital outreach campaigns to increase visibility and engagement with international stakeholders. The intern will assist in producing high-quality communication materials and organizing both virtual and in-person events, providing hands-on experience in strategic communications within a multi-stakeholder UN environment. The position is designed for entry-level candidates, offering a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the communications field, particularly in the global arena, while working closely with various UN agencies and stakeholders involved in climate action and transparency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Social Media Support: The intern will contribute to the creation, scheduling, and publishing of content for ICAT’s social media channels, maintaining a social media calendar, monitoring engagements on platforms like X, YouTube, and LinkedIn, and interacting with followers. They will also contribute creative ideas for content and social media campaigns related to ICAT’s activities and measure post impressions and engagement metrics.
  • Website Support: The intern will assist in creating written stories for the ICAT website, covering projects and activities in line with the editorial calendar. Responsibilities include writing, editing, publishing, and optimizing content for the website, as well as measuring website performance.
  • Other Communications Channels: The intern will support the preparation and publication of the quarterly electronic newsletter, ICAT Spotlight, assist in media engagement activities, and prepare updates for partner publications.
  • Events Support: The intern will assist with online and in-person ICAT events, including creating materials such as session concept notes, presentations, posters, brochures, and other promotional items. They will plan and implement event promotions via ICAT channels, capture key messages from events for communications products, support the hosting and management of webinars, and assist in delivering in-person events.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have completed a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or be enrolled in a postgraduate program, having graduated within three years prior to the start date of the internship. Preferred areas of study include communications, media, marketing, and/or journalism. While no prior work experience is required, some experience or volunteering in related fields such as climate change, capacity building, or research would be an asset. The candidate should possess strong time management skills, the ability to synthesize large amounts of information, and communicate it clearly.

Educational Background:
The applicant should have completed a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or be enrolled in a postgraduate program, having graduated within three years prior to the start date of the internship. The area of study should preferably be in communications, media, marketing, and/or journalism.

Experience:
While no prior work experience is required, some experience or volunteering in related fields such as climate change, capacity building, or research would be beneficial. The candidate should demonstrate efficient time management skills and the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects alongside tasks requiring quick turnaround.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in Spanish and French at an intermediate level is desirable.

Additional Notes:
The internship is for a duration of 8 months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. The position is entry-level and classified as an internship. The intern is responsible for arranging their own travel and securing any necessary visas. They must provide confirmation of fitness for duty station conditions, certified by a medical practitioner, and must possess a residence permit or nationality allowing them to stay and conduct the internship in Germany during the full duration of the internship.
