Job Overview: The UN Partnerships Officer is a pivotal role within the UN Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. This position is responsible for providing strategic support and advice to the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in developing and managing partnerships aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The officer will engage with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society, and the private sector, to foster collaboration and resource mobilization. The role requires a deep understanding of the UN's partnership strategies and the ability to navigate complex relationships to promote sustainable development initiatives. The officer will also contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of partnership effectiveness and support the communication of UN results and partnerships to enhance visibility and engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnerships Officer will undertake a range of responsibilities, including:
Providing substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT partnerships with various stakeholders for SDG achievement.
Advising on the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
Facilitating high-level dialogues and partnerships between the Resident Coordinator, UNCT, and government counterparts.
Supporting the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of partnership strategies and initiatives.
Conducting liaison and coordination with UN entities to package value propositions for local partnerships.
Building strong interfaces with development partners and providing support in identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships.
Contributing to resource mobilization initiatives and managing pooled funds for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
Collaborating with finance experts to promote partnerships that support financing for the SDGs.
Collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Business or Public Administration, Sustainable Development, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or Data Science is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of sustainable development theories and practices, as well as the ability to conduct independent research and analysis.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Business, Public Administration, Sustainable Development, or Social Sciences. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. Specialized training in data analytics or related areas is advantageous, reflecting the increasing importance of data-driven decision-making in development contexts.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, and resource mobilization in development cooperation is required. Candidates should have a proven track record in developing strategic partnerships across government, private sector, and civil society organizations. Experience in designing and implementing partnerships, as well as resource mobilization strategies, is essential. Familiarity with UN interagency coordination and knowledge management in development cooperation is desirable, along with experience in preparing project proposals and supporting financing for the SDGs.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English at UN Level III, which indicates a high level of fluency and comprehension.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term position with an initial appointment period of one year, subject to availability of funds and budgetary approval. The position is open to nationals of Trinidad and Tobago only, and candidates residing elsewhere may be considered if no suitable local candidates are identified.
