Job Overview: The UN Driver position is integral to the operations of the UN Resident Coordination Office in Port of Spain. The primary function of the driver is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and goods. This role involves not only driving but also maintaining the vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition, and adhering to all driving regulations. The driver will be responsible for making deliveries, handling minor purchases, and assisting with customs formalities. Additionally, the driver will support data collection and administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of the office. This position requires a commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and client orientation, as the driver will interact with various stakeholders, including government officials and UN personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities: The driver will be responsible for the following duties: driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo; making regular deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and other institutions; handling minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers; facilitating customs formalities for goods; meeting official personnel at the airport; maintaining the assigned vehicles, including performing minor repairs; logging official trips and vehicle maintenance; ensuring compliance with regulations in case of accidents; assisting with data collection and analysis; updating information materials; and providing administrative support, including maintaining office ICT equipment. The driver may also be assigned additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid National Driver License and have a safe driving record. A defensive driving certificate is desirable. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with local roads and conditions, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and client orientation in their work.
Educational Background: Completion of a High School diploma or equivalent is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties effectively.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver is required, with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should have experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organizations is desirable, as is experience in data analytics or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial but not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking English at UN Level II.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term position with an initial appointment period of one year, subject to budgetary approval and availability of funds.
