Job Overview:
The UNESCO Project Officer for Sciences will play a pivotal role in the execution of the Sciences Programme, focusing on themes related to social development, social inclusion, sports, youth, and intercultural dialogue. The incumbent will work under the authority of the Director and Representative of UNESCO to Brazil, with direct supervision from the Criança Esperança Coordinator. This position requires the successful candidate to act as a focal point for specific themes within the Sciences Programme, mobilizing partnerships and extrabudgetary resources, and fostering collaboration with various stakeholders including government entities, academic institutions, civil society, and the private sector. The Project Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing projects, providing technical and operational inputs, and supporting the Programme Coordinator in achieving the objectives of the Sciences Programme. The role also involves monitoring and evaluating project deliverables, particularly those related to the Criança Esperança programme, ensuring that all activities align with UNESCO's priorities and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Officer will undertake a variety of tasks including: supporting the Sciences Programme Coordinator in mapping the development stage of topics under UNESCO's mandate; contributing to the preparation of planning documents and management tools; designing, managing, and following up on project implementation phases; preparing project proposals and revisions; monitoring project implementation and analyzing deliverables; providing technical value to projects; organizing and revising content for publications; preparing technical presentations and reports; attending meetings and participating in technical groups; conducting negotiations with donors; identifying opportunities for new project agreements; participating in the analysis and selection of projects submitted by NGOs; supporting the evaluation and dissemination of best practices in the field of Sciences; and performing any additional activities necessary for the success of the Sciences sector.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (equivalent to a Master's or Post-graduate studies) in any area of Social or Human Sciences, preferably with a research focus related to social work or the social area. Additionally, a minimum of 8 years of practical experience in programme and/or project management in the social area is required, with at least 5 years of experience in project implementation at national and/or international levels, particularly within the UN system or similar organizations. Previous experience in managing technical cooperation projects and knowledge of UNESCO or UN operations will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes an advanced university degree in Social or Human Sciences. This degree should ideally be complemented by specialized training or courses relevant to the position, particularly in areas related to social development, youth policies, and social inclusion.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, with a strong emphasis on programme and project management in the social sector. Candidates should have substantial experience in implementing projects, particularly those focused on children's rights and social inclusion, within the context of national and international frameworks. Experience working with NGOs, governmental institutions, and international organizations is essential, along with a proven track record in managing project activities and expenditures.

Languages:
Proficiency in Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of another official language of UNESCO, such as French or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role with a service contract level of SC9, based in Brasilia, Brazil. The contract duration is for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal depending on budgetary availability and satisfactory performance. The monthly remuneration for this position is BRL 21,107.41, paid in local currency. The working hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
