Job Overview:
As a Family Support Specialist, you will be integral to the Domestic and Family Violence and Sexual Assault programs, focusing on supporting individuals and families to create positive change. This full-time, permanent position involves working within a case management framework in an outreach role, providing essential support to those experiencing domestic, family, or sexual violence. The role is based in Mount Isa and requires flexibility in working hours, as services are provided until 10 PM, seven days a week. Your work will center on ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard, promoting health and safety, and establishing goals for client progress. You will be part of a dedicated team committed to creating lasting change for children and families affected by violence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Family Support Specialist will be responsible for providing holistic case management to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients. Key duties include delivering support that fosters positive relationships and outcomes for clients, identifying strengths, establishing program goals, and reviewing client progress. You will also promote skills that enhance health, safety, and development, ensuring that the needs of children and young people are prioritized. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain accurate records, write reports, and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the support provided. Collaboration with other service providers and community organizations will also be a critical aspect of this role, as will advocating for the rights and needs of clients within the domestic and family violence sector.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate experience in case management, particularly within the domestic and family violence sector. A strong understanding of relevant legislation is essential, along with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The ideal candidate will possess strong report writing, analytical, and evaluation skills, including the ability to collate and analyze data effectively. A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is required, or significant experience in the sector may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Educational Background:
A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred for this position. However, significant experience working in the domestic and family violence sector may also be considered as an alternative to formal educational qualifications. Continuous professional development and training in relevant areas will be encouraged and supported by the organization.

Experience:
The position requires demonstrated experience in case management, particularly in contexts involving domestic and family violence. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively with vulnerable populations, including children and families affected by trauma. Experience in outreach roles and familiarity with community resources and support services will be advantageous.

Languages:
While the primary language for this position is English, knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages or other community languages would be considered an asset. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively engaging with clients and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
