Job Overview: The IDB Group is seeking an active graduate student for a paid internship opportunity as part of the 2027 Winter Internship Program. This program is designed for university students from member countries to gain insights into development work and corporate management within the Bank. The intern will support the Institutional Capacity of the State Division (ICS) in its Transparency and Integrity thematic area by developing a web-based analytical tool aimed at enhancing evidence-based policy dialogue and operational engagement on transparency and integrity issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern will work on creating a functional prototype of an interactive regional dashboard that consolidates internationally recognized indicators and secondary evidence related to countries' transparency and integrity systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply data science, interactive visualization, and institutional analysis in a practical development context, contributing to the Bank's mission of strengthening state effectiveness and financial integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for compiling, validating, and structuring international indicators and secondary evidence for selected countries, including source metadata and definitions. They will develop a working web dashboard proof of concept that allows for interactive exploration of country profiles, selected indicators, trends, and cross-country comparisons. The intern will also integrate source documentation and create functionality to generate standardized Country Integrity Snapshots from the underlying data. Additionally, they will prepare concise, evidence-based interpretations of country patterns and demonstrate how the tool can support regional analysis and policy dialogue. The final deliverables will include the functional prototype, supporting data and code, technical documentation, and a demonstration with recommendations for future development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be nationals of an IDB member country and actively enrolled in a graduate program (master’s or Ph.D.) in fields such as Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Social Science, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, International Development, or Information Systems. The graduation date must be after the internship period. Candidates should not have family members working at the IDB or IDB Invest and must be first-time participants in the internship program. Additionally, candidates must submit their resume, academic transcripts, and a university letter certifying their student status when applying. Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be active graduate students (master’s or Ph.D.) in relevant fields from an accredited university. It is essential that at least 50% of coursework is completed by the time of application, and the graduation date should be after the internship period. Candidates must provide academic transcripts issued within the last three months and a university letter confirming their student status.
Experience: The internship is designed for graduate students, so prior professional experience is not strictly required. However, familiarity with transparency, integrity, anti-corruption, and international development is desirable. Experience in developing user-friendly analytical products and interactive dashboards using tools such as Python or R is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and a working knowledge of one additional Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is considered a plus.
