Job Overview:
The Project Associate position within IOM Ethiopia’s Protection Unit is crucial for assisting in the planning, delivery, and overall support to Migration Response Centres (MRCs). The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Programme Officer (Protection) and the National Officer (Protection) to ensure that the MRCs effectively address the needs of migrants in vulnerable situations. This role involves coordinating with local stakeholders and sub-offices to support MRC operations, focusing on administrative, data management, and non-technical requirements. The candidate will contribute to protection programming, assist in the development of protection Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and manage data related to protection cases. The position also includes organizing training sessions for MRC staff and partners on various topics related to migrant protection and assistance, thereby enhancing the capacity of the MRCs to respond to the needs of migrants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Associate include: assisting in the planning and delivery of MRC operations; contributing to the development of protection Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); receiving, analyzing, and reporting on protection cases referred from field teams and partners; managing MRC data and producing various reports; organizing training sessions for MRC staff and partners; assisting in procurement and logistics for protection-related activities; facilitating meetings and workshops; preparing and submitting program reports in coordination with MRC teams; conducting field visits to improve MRC interventions; supporting requests from external partners; and enhancing the visibility of MRC actions through collaboration with the communications team. The role requires active participation in regular meetings related to MRC operations and may involve additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in psychology, social psychology, development studies, migration studies, social work, humanitarian aid, or related fields from an accredited academic institution. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to work in a multicultural environment with vulnerable populations, possess strong communication skills, and exhibit cultural sensitivity. The role requires the ability to work under challenging and stressful conditions, as well as in-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas and proven experience in movement management. Computer literacy, particularly in MS Windows and MS Office applications, is also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as psychology, social psychology, development studies, migration studies, social work, or humanitarian aid. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of migration and the protection needs of vulnerable populations.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience in humanitarian settings, migration, and/or development settings is required for this position. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or UN agencies is considered an asset. The candidate should have a proven track record of working effectively in challenging environments and with diverse populations.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Amharic is mandatory for this consultancy, both oral and written. Knowledge of additional languages such as Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna, and Somali, as well as other languages spoken in Ethiopia, is advantageous. The proficiency in required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy position is covered against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) at no charge. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation, and the appointment will require certification of medical fitness, accreditation, and compliance with residency or visa requirements.
