Job Overview:
The Internship - Legal Support to Programmes (LSP) position is designed for talented students or recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in the legal aspects of international police cooperation. Interns will work within the Legal Support to Operations Sub-Directorate, focusing on legal frameworks related to data protection, information security, and the regulation of emerging technologies. The internship aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of INTERPOL's goals, objectives, and operational dynamics, while also enhancing the interns' educational experience through practical assignments. Interns will be exposed to a multicultural environment, fostering mutual understanding and tolerance, and will have the opportunity to develop skills that are beneficial for their future careers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for conducting legal research and drafting documents related to various legal questions, particularly concerning compliance with INTERPOL’s Constitution and Rules of Processing Data. They will assist in the research and drafting of governance documents, such as risk assessment guides and standard operating procedures. Additionally, interns will provide support to staff involved in drafting and negotiating cooperation agreements with external partners. Other tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed, ensuring that interns gain a well-rounded experience in legal support functions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of one of INTERPOL’s 196 member countries and have attained the legal age in their country of nationality. They should be enrolled in or have graduated from a post-secondary accredited academic institution within the past year, preferably with coursework related to technology, data protection, or public international law. Professional fluency in English is mandatory, and a good command of any other INTERPOL official language (Arabic, Spanish, French) is considered an asset. Candidates should also possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and demonstrate the ability to work with discretion, diplomacy, and rigor.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or graduation from a post-secondary accredited academic institution, ideally with a focus on technology, data protection, or public international law. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the legal frameworks and issues that the intern will encounter during their time at INTERPOL.

Experience:
While prior experience is not explicitly required, candidates with exposure to data protection law, information security, or the regulation of emerging technologies will be viewed favorably. Experience in drafting or reviewing governance, technical, or risk management documentation, particularly in relation to emerging technologies, is also considered an asset, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Languages:
Professional fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, having a good command of any other INTERPOL official language, such as Arabic, Spanish, or French, will be considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.

  • Interns will receive an allowance of EUR 700 per month, along with a transport subsidy of EUR 30 and a housing subsidy of EUR 170 per month for eligible interns. It is required that interns have health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the internship, although they may request enrollment in INTERPOL’s health insurance at no additional cost. INTERPOL does not establish internship agreements with universities or academic institutions, and all arrangements are made directly between INTERPOL and the selected intern.
