Job Overview:
The District Project Coordinator is a crucial field-based role responsible for the implementation of UNFPA-supported integrated sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender-based violence (GBV) interventions across designated districts and municipalities. This position requires the incumbent to engage regularly with provincial, district, and local authorities, coordinate with implementing partners and service delivery actors, and monitor the quality and results of the programs. The role is pivotal in connecting municipal implementation efforts with provincial and national systems, ensuring that SRHR and GBV services are effectively planned, financed, delivered, and monitored as part of a rights-based and government-owned system. The District Project Coordinator will work across various sectors, including health, social development, justice, education, and protection, with a particular focus on marginalized populations such as women, girls, adolescents, young people, persons with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, Dalits, and others who are often left behind. This position is integral to translating UNFPA's strategic outcomes into actionable plans at the sub-national level, fostering collaboration among local governments, community organizations, and development partners to achieve timely and effective results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Gender Studies, Sociology, or a related field, along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with a secondary-level education in the aforementioned fields and 7 years of relevant experience will also be considered. The ideal candidate should demonstrate experience in program implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting at various governmental levels. Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and gender-based violence prevention is essential. Familiarity with Nepal's federal governance system and relevant laws and policies is advantageous. Proficiency in standard office applications and a willingness to travel frequently within the assigned province are also required.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Gender Studies, Sociology, or a related field is required. Candidates with a secondary-level education in these fields may qualify with additional relevant experience. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in health, gender issues, and social development, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to address the complexities of SRHR and GBV interventions.
Experience:
Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of at least 4 years in program implementation, coordination, and monitoring at the provincial, district, or municipal levels. Experience working with local governments in Nepal, particularly in health, gender, social development, justice, and planning, is crucial. Familiarity with rights-based approaches and experience in humanitarian preparedness and response will be considered an advantage. Prior experience with UNFPA or similar international development organizations is also beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Nepali, both oral and written, is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the district where the position is based will be considered an asset, enhancing communication with community members and stakeholders.

- Support policy advocacy, planning, and budgeting processes at the subnational level by providing hands-on assistance to municipalities in integrating SRHR and GBV priorities into their plans and budgets. This includes facilitating evidence-based dialogues with local government representatives to mobilize resources for essential services.
- Implement and coordinate program activities across assigned districts, ensuring alignment with annual work plans and technical standards. Maintain regular communication with local authorities and partners to support the delivery of planned activities and monitor their quality.
- Conduct field visits to monitor program implementation, assess service quality, and document results and lessons learned.
- Promote a safe and inclusive working environment by adhering to safeguarding policies and supporting partners in establishing confidential feedback channels for communities.
- Collaborate with disaster management authorities to ensure continuity of SRHR and GBV services during emergencies.
- Engage in advocacy efforts to promote gender-responsive budgeting and effective policy implementation at the local level.
- Facilitate inter-departmental coordination among health, gender, education, and finance sectors to enhance service delivery.
- Support municipalities in conducting periodic reviews and capacity-building initiatives for health facility management committees.
- Document and report on program progress, challenges, and successes to inform stakeholders and support learning.
