Job Overview: The Clinical Specialist position is a critical role within the EpiC Ghana project, which aims to achieve HIV epidemic control among at-risk populations and people living with HIV. The Clinical Specialist will be responsible for the effective delivery of integrated HIV clinical care and laboratory services across various program implementation sites. This role involves routine contact with the Ghana Ministry of Health, health facilities, and implementing partners to provide ongoing technical support and quality assurance for HIV clinical care and laboratory functions. The Clinical Specialist will lead quality improvement initiatives, strengthen clinical-laboratory coordination, and ensure timely processing of samples and return of results. The position requires collaboration with the HIV Technical Advisor and other program staff to ensure best practices are applied and project strategies are aligned with the overall goals of the EpiC project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Clinical Specialist will support the design, implementation, and monitoring of clinical care and lab services related to HIV treatment and prevention. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the Ghana Health Service and other stakeholders to ensure quality clinical care for PLHIV, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and HIV-exposed infants. The specialist will ensure the availability of essential commodities such as ARVs and testing kits, assist in strengthening diagnostic components, and contribute technical expertise in diagnostics and quality management systems. The role also involves developing and facilitating clinical and laboratory training, preparing technical reports, and contributing to program quality through quality assurance and improvement initiatives. The Clinical Specialist will take swift action to implement technical recommendations and assist in developing lessons learned to improve existing programs and design new ones.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be a Medical Doctor with specialization in family medicine, infectious diseases, internal medicine, or a related field. A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in technical and program management in HIV-care settings is required, including at least 5 years in supervision and oversight of program implementation. Candidates should have experience in handling and interpreting lab test results, supporting sub-partners, and familiarity with USAID or PEPFAR supported programs. Strong report writing, analytical, and communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to travel as needed.
Educational Background: A Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree is required, with specialization in a relevant field such as family medicine, infectious diseases, or internal medicine. Additional certifications or training in HIV care and management would be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires at least 6 years of relevant experience in HIV care settings, with a strong emphasis on program management and technical mentoring. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in high-pressure environments and delivering high volumes of work with minimal supervision. Previous experience with USAID or PEPFAR programs is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of local languages may be beneficial but is not required.
Additional Notes: The expected hiring salary range for this role is indexed to USD 20,000 - 30,000 for annual basic salary.
