Job Overview: The Data ManagementIntern will play a crucial role in supporting the data management, reporting, and digital information systems of Action Against Hunger. This position is designed for individuals at the early stages of their careers in data, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL), public health, or information systems. The intern will work under the supervision of the Data Manager, providing essential support in various data-related tasks. Responsibilities will include data capture, cleaning, quality checks, dashboard updates, and user support. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience with tools such as DHIS2, Excel/Google Sheets, and Power BI, while contributing to the organization's mission of addressing hunger and improving community resilience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting routine data cleaning, validation, and preparation of datasets for MEAL and program reporting; assisting with basic configuration updates in DHIS2 and other data systems; conducting routine data quality checks to identify issues such as missing values and duplicates; updating dashboards and reports in various platforms; exporting data for reporting processes; testing digital tools before deployment; documenting user feedback and system issues; providing first-level user support; preparing user guides and training materials; coordinating training sessions; and participating in MEAL and program meetings to contribute to the continuous improvement of data tools and workflows.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or be engaged in ongoing studies in relevant fields such as Statistics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Health, Monitoring and Evaluation, or Project Management. Additional training or coursework in data management, database systems, monitoring and evaluation, analytics, or information systems is considered an advantage. A demonstrated interest in humanitarian programming, MEAL, and digital data systems is essential, along with basic knowledge of data collection, entry, cleaning, and quality assurance principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets is required, including familiarity with basic formulas and data validation. Knowledge of tools like DHIS2, Power BI, and mobile data collection platforms is a plus.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Statistics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Health, or Monitoring and Evaluation. Ongoing studies in these areas are also acceptable. Training or coursework in data management and analytics will enhance the candidate's profile, making them more suitable for the internship.
