Job Overview:
The Investment Analyst position within the Infrastructure department of IFC is crucial for supporting the organization's mission to enhance infrastructure access in emerging markets. The role involves working closely with the Latin America and the Caribbean Infrastructure Unit, which is responsible for originating, structuring, and supervising infrastructure investments in the region. The analyst will be stationed in Mexico City and will report to the Regional Lead for the Infrastructure team. The position requires a proactive approach to business development, including sourcing and assessing new investment opportunities, analyzing financial models, and participating in transaction structuring. The analyst will also engage in monitoring existing investments, ensuring compliance with IFC's standards, and preparing high-quality reports that identify potential risks and issues. This role is integral to the success of IFC's infrastructure initiatives and requires a blend of analytical skills, financial acumen, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investment Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the sourcing and assessment of new investment opportunities by identifying bankable projects and anticipating market trends.
  • Creating and analyzing financial models, with a strong emphasis on corporate and project finance modeling.
  • Participating in the structuring of new transactions and providing analytical support during investment negotiations.
  • Reviewing and analyzing historical and projected financial statements to inform decision-making.
  • Conducting industry and market research, including integrity checks and pricing benchmarks, to assist in business development efforts.
  • Preparing pitchbooks and proposals for clients, as well as documentation for internal IFC processes.
  • Actively monitoring investments in portfolio companies, ensuring compliance with IFC's financial, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Preparing high-quality reports that identify potential risks and issues within the investment portfolio.
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders to achieve project goals and meet deadlines under pressure.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered for the Investment Analyst position:
  • A Bachelor's or equivalent degree, preferably with a concentration in Finance, Business, or Economics.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a financial institution, investment bank, private equity fund, consulting firm, or similar sector, with a proven track record in analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis. Candidates with 3 or more years of experience are preferred.
  • Experience in infrastructure-related projects, such as transport, power, telecom, and water, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of macroeconomic, regulatory, and market conditions in the region, particularly Mexico, Central America, and Colombia, is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound business judgment to identify issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, with the ability to analyze and draw conclusions from financial data.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams and across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Spanish and English are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Investment Analyst position includes a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with a strong preference for candidates who have concentrated their studies in Finance, Business, or Economics. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of financial analysis and investment decision-making in the infrastructure sector.

Experience:
