Job Overview:
The IDB Group is seeking an active undergraduate student for an internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position under the Consultant modality. This internship is part of the 2027 Winter Internship Program, which is a competitive paid opportunity designed for university students from member countries. The program aims to provide participants with valuable insights into development work and corporate management within the Bank, while also allowing them to gain professional experience through on-the-job learning. Interns will be expected to utilize specialized computer-assisted translation tools to create translation memory databases, align official documents, conduct research, compile terminology, and contribute to the development of glossaries and style manuals. Additionally, interns will perform quality control reviews, produce draft translations, and assist in implementing language technology and analytics tools, all while working in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: using specialized computer-assisted translation tools to create dedicated translation memory databases for efficient translation of recurring texts in IDB Group documents; aligning official documents using alignment software; conducting research and compiling terminology related to official Bank documents; contributing to the development of in-house glossaries and style manuals; conducting quality control reviews to verify the accuracy and completeness of documents; producing draft translations of IDB Group documents from any of the Bank’s official languages into the candidate’s mother tongue for revision and feedback; and assisting in the implementation of language technology and analytics tools. Interns must be able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be considered for this internship. They must be active undergraduate students enrolled in a relevant program such as Literature, Language Studies, Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Translation, or a related discipline from an accredited university. The graduation date should be after the internship period. Additionally, candidates must be nationals of an IDB member country and must not have family members working at the IDB or IDB Invest. This internship is intended for first-time participants in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation, and candidates must not have been former staff members or contractors for the Bank or Corporation.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being an active undergraduate student in a relevant field such as Literature, Language Studies, Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Translation, or a related discipline. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor's program as of the starting date of the internship program, and they should have completed their second year of studies by the time of application. The graduation date must be after the internship period, ensuring that candidates are still students during the internship.

Experience:
Candidates are expected to have some level of experience, particularly in using computer-assisted translation tools and terminology management software. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with these technical skills is desirable to ensure that interns can effectively contribute to the tasks assigned during the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with a native or working knowledge of one other Bank language, which can be Spanish, French, or Portuguese. This bilingual capability is essential for the translation and document service support tasks that interns will be performing.

  • Interns must complete their assignments within this fixed period, which cannot be modified. Candidates are required to submit their resumes, academic transcripts (official or unofficial), and a university letter certifying their student status when applying. If an unofficial transcript is submitted, an official one will be requested if the candidate moves forward in the application process. Additionally, international students in the U.S.A. must have work authorization through CPT or OPT and should consult their school advisor before applying.
