The Global Center of Excellence in Gender Statistics (CEEG) of ONU Mujeres, in partnership with Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), serves as a leading platform for innovation in the production, analysis, and use of gender statistics. The CEEG develops robust and innovative methodologies to strengthen institutional technical capacities and promote the production and use of actionable data to advance gender equality and women's rights at national, regional, and global levels. The CEEG contributes to ONU Mujeres' global initiative Women Count and, in collaboration with the Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, enhances gender-sensitive statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean. To strengthen its international outreach, the CEEG seeks support for the translation into English and bilingual editing (Spanish to English) of its knowledge products, ensuring technical coherence, terminological accuracy, and institutional consistency with the language of ONU Mujeres and the UN system. This assignment will enhance the international visibility of the CEEG's work, ensure participation in global advocacy spaces, and facilitate technical cooperation with regional offices and headquarters of ONU Mujeres. Duties and Responsibilities:
The two volunteers will assist in the translation, editing, and comprehensive conceptual review of five technical documents from Spanish to English, ensuring conceptual accuracy, terminological consistency, and will carry out editorial design based on ONU Mujeres' standards. The contents of the publications can be categorized into two blocks: 1) geospatial statistics applied to femicide/feminized violence and women's economic empowerment and care systems; and 2) gaps in the production of time use statistics and quantification of care. During the translation, support is requested to review conceptual consistency and technical editing, applying institutional editorial design criteria aimed at ensuring the readability and coherence of the documents, as they are expected to contribute to developing public policies based on scientific evidence. The following aspects should be considered: • Logical organization and hierarchy of content (titles, subtitles, and section sequence). • Normalization of editorial style according to ONU Mujeres and UN system standards. • Clarity and consistency of definitions, methodological notes, tables, and graphs. • Coherence between executive summaries, technical body, and conclusions. • Preparation of texts for use in official reports, institutional presentations, and decision-making processes. Under the supervision of the CEEG team, the two volunteers will collaborate on the following publications: OV 1 – Support in geospatial statistics applied to femicide/feminized violence and women's economic empowerment and care systems.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong language skills in both Spanish and English, with a focus on translation and editing. They should have a solid understanding of gender statistics and the ability to work with technical documents. Familiarity with ONU Mujeres' standards and methodologies is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, statistics, gender studies, or a related field is preferred. These documents address methodological frameworks, spatial typologies, administrative sources, interoperability of records, and the construction of georeferenced indicators, requiring a profile with experience in geospatial statistics, violence against women, and official information systems. OV 2 – Support in Time Use and Care Statistics.
- Measuring time use: an assessment of the problems and challenges in conducting time use surveys
- Quantification of care: design and harmonization issues in time use surveys. These documents address the measurement of unpaid domestic work and care, the care economy, and time use, requiring a profile with experience in gender statistics, household surveys, and care. This assignment will allow volunteers to strengthen their experience in producing and reviewing technical publications in English and Spanish, apply their statistical, demographic, and sociological knowledge, and develop competencies in using ONU Mujeres' editorial and methodological standards to generate evidence that supports the formulation, monitoring, and evaluation of gender-focused public policies.
