Job Posting Organization:
UN-Habitat, established after the 2006 July War, has been operational in Lebanon for 17 years. The organization focuses on housing reconstruction, shelter provision, and upgrading basic services while promoting sustainable urban development. UN-Habitat works with various partners and urban planning actors at community, national, and international levels to implement programs that align with the 2015-2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The organization adapts to the evolving needs of Lebanon, addressing crises such as the Syrian displacement, socio-economic challenges, and the Beirut Port explosion, among others.

Job Overview:
The Communication Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing UN-Habitat's visibility and communication strategies. This position involves developing and implementing communication plans that effectively convey the organization's mission, vision, and achievements to a diverse audience, including donors, government entities, and the general public. The officer will be responsible for creating high-quality content across various platforms, ensuring that the organization's priorities are communicated effectively. The role requires a blend of creativity and strategic thinking to engage stakeholders and promote advocacy efforts while adhering to corporate branding standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Project and Donor Communication: Develop comprehensive communication and visibility plans, ensuring alignment with donor guidelines and contributing to donor reports. Identify communication opportunities and potential risks to enhance project visibility.
  • Campaigns, Content, and Design: Create and implement communication campaigns that resonate with the organizational strategy. Transform complex technical information into accessible messages and produce engaging content in both Arabic and English. Design various communication products, including newsletters, brochures, and social media materials.
  • Photography, Video, and Field Coverage: Document project activities through photography and videography, producing high-quality videos and digital content. Develop concepts and scripts for multimedia productions while ensuring ethical standards are maintained.
  • Events, Digital Communication, and Media Support: Assist in organizing events and workshops, managing content for digital platforms, and supporting media relations. Monitor digital engagement metrics to assess communication effectiveness.
  • Brand Management, Reporting, and Coordination: Ensure consistent branding across all projects, conduct quality control of communication materials, and prepare communication reports. Participate in planning meetings and support emergency communication needs as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a First Level University degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Marketing, Digital Communications, International Relations, or a related field. A minimum of two years of professional experience in communication strategy development and implementation is required. Experience with UN agencies or international organizations is desirable. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and relevant design software is essential.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations is mandatory for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for effective communication and media engagement.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in communication roles, particularly in developing and implementing communication strategies and outreach activities. Experience working with UN agencies, international organizations, or NGOs is highly desirable, as it indicates familiarity with the operational context and challenges faced in such environments.

Languages:
Proficiency in both Arabic and English is required for this position, with a minimum UN Level III (Advanced) proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking for both languages. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
