The Global Center of Excellence in Gender Statistics (CEEG) of ONU Mujeres, in partnership with Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), serves as a leading platform for innovation in the production, analysis, and use of gender statistics. The CEEG develops robust and innovative methodologies to strengthen institutional technical capacities and promote the production and use of actionable data to advance gender equality and women's rights at national, regional, and global levels. The CEEG also contributes to ONU Mujeres' global initiative, Women Count, and collaborates with the Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean to enhance gender-sensitive statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean. This position offers a volunteer the opportunity to engage in a high-impact global strategic initiative, enhancing their experience in international cooperation and gaining firsthand knowledge of ONU Mujeres' work in gender statistics, innovation, and multisectoral partnerships. The volunteer will also gain insight into the scope and outcomes of the Women Count project in Latin America and the Caribbean, contributing to its positioning and visibility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteers will support the CEEG in developing strategic inputs for mapping and strengthening alliances aimed at resource mobilization and positioning at regional and global levels in gender statistics, in alignment with ONU Mujeres' institutional principles, the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the global Women Count project framework. Support activities will include:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, particularly in the context of gender statistics and data analysis. They should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Familiarity with gender issues and statistics is essential, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving and resource mobilization. Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable, as is the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, statistics, gender studies, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced studies or certifications in gender statistics or data analysis would be an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of gender equality principles and the role of statistics in promoting women's rights.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in research, data analysis, or project support, particularly in the context of gender statistics or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs focused on gender issues is highly desirable. Familiarity with resource mobilization strategies and partnership development is also beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the position requires communication with local partners and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is highly desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and collaboration with international teams. - Strategic mapping of alliances and funding opportunities - Context analysis by sector (public sector, international cooperation, private sector, academia), considering mandates, institutional priorities, and alignment with gender equality and human rights principles. - Analysis of strategic positioning and funding objectives of the CEEG (short and medium term). Key themes prioritized by the CEEG include care, geospatial statistics, georeferenced data, violence and femicide, political participation, climate change, and time use, which will be defined with the CEEG supervisor. - Mapping and segmentation of potential partners, focusing on actors interested in gender statistics, innovation, and data (e.g., National Statistical Offices, International Finance Corporation – IFC, technology companies like Microsoft, cooperation agencies, and embassies). Estimated deliverables (12 weeks): • 1 alliance mapping matrix (minimum 15–20 potential partners). • 1 context analysis and funding opportunities document (10–12 pages). • 1 alliance management timeline with roles and deadlines.
- Strategic support products for resource mobilization - Value proposition of the CEEG and impact narrative aligned with Women Count. - Proposal for generating one-pagers (up to 5) directed at different types of partners based on the alliance mapping. - Roadmap for linkages by CEEG themes and partner types. Estimated deliverables: • 1 institutional value proposition. • Up to 5 one-pagers (drafts). • 1 linkage roadmap.
- Coordination and technical feedback - Participation in periodic coordination and technical feedback meetings with the CEEG team and ONU Mujeres Regional Office. - Adjustments to products based on technical and institutional feedback.
