Job Overview:
The Publications Data Management Intern will play a crucial role in supporting MSF's humanitarian mission by managing and improving the MSF Science Portal, which serves as a repository for research outcomes and publications. The intern will collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure the platform is regularly updated and that data quality is maintained. This position involves a variety of tasks including data entry, data cleaning, project organization, and descriptive analysis. The intern will also engage in long-term projects that may involve website enhancements, dashboard development, and communication strategies. This internship is designed for students with a strong interest in data management and medical sciences, providing an opportunity to contribute to meaningful research that impacts global health policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's primary responsibilities will include:
  • Publications Support (40-60%): Creating a weekly list of new MSF-authored publications by reviewing various academic databases and entering this information into the Science Portal database.
  • Data Cleaning and Management Support (20-30%): Assisting the Portal team in enhancing data cleanliness through direct database queries and updates using SQL for bulk updates or manual cleaning.
  • Workflow Monitoring and Improvements (20%): Aiding in the optimization of workflow processes and project management to enhance efficiency.
  • Communications and Website Visibility (10-20%): Supporting communication efforts to raise awareness of the Science Portal through social media and internal platforms.
  • Additional Projects: Engaging in various data visualization, management, and communication projects based on the intern's strengths and interests. The intern will also be expected to demonstrate problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication throughout their work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a variety of backgrounds, with a strong emphasis on familiarity with scholarly publications and data management. Key qualifications include:
  • Current or recent graduate of a Master’s level or higher program in public health or library sciences.
  • Experience or keen interest in project and data management.
  • Familiarity with scientific and medical publications.
  • Experience with relational databases and published medical literature.
  • Interest in medical topics relevant to MSF's research.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate will have completed or be in the process of completing a Master’s degree or higher in public health, library sciences, or a related field.
