Job Overview:
The position involves providing specialized technical support to the Global Center of Excellence in Gender Statistics (CEEG) of UN Women, in collaboration with Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). The role focuses on exploring, systematizing, and proposing the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the production, analysis, and use of gender statistics. This work aligns with human rights principles, gender equality, and the global Women Count initiative. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the CEEG technical team and will develop clearly defined lines of work, including mapping international experiences in AI and gender statistics, diagnosing opportunities for the CEEG, and providing technical feedback. This assignment will enhance professional experience at the intersection of AI, statistics, and human rights, while contributing to high-impact products that position the CEEG as an international reference in ethical and gender-focused statistical innovation.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of gender statistics, data science, and the ethical implications of using AI in statistical production. The volunteer should possess analytical skills, the ability to synthesize complex information, and experience in conducting research or mapping exercises. Familiarity with international frameworks related to gender equality and human rights is essential. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, statistics, data science, gender studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are preferred, particularly in areas that intersect with gender statistics and AI.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in research, data analysis, or working with gender statistics. Experience in international organizations or projects related to gender equality and human rights is highly desirable. Familiarity with AI applications in statistical contexts will be an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the position is based in Mexico. Proficiency in English is also required, and knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mapping of international experiences in AI and gender statistics: The volunteer will conduct a structured mapping of relevant experiences that utilize AI or data science for gender statistics or related themes (such as care, gender-based violence, economic participation, climate change, and digital violence). This includes identifying international organizations, national statistical offices, research centers, and pilot initiatives with the private or tech sector. Deliverables include a comparative matrix of international experiences (minimum 10-15 cases) and an analytical synthesis note (5-7 pages) on trends, opportunities, and risks.
- Diagnosis of opportunities for the CEEG: Based on current initiatives of the CEEG and Women Count, the volunteer will identify priority areas where AI can add value, such as analyzing large volumes of data and integrating non-traditional sources. The deliverable will be a diagnostic document (20-50 pages) that outlines the potential of AI to strengthen gender statistical systems, technical limitations and risks (algorithmic biases, representativeness, privacy), ethical and human rights considerations, opportunities for strategic partnerships, minimum ethical principles, and general guidelines for national statistical offices, academic institutions, and private sector partners.
- Technical feedback: Participation in coordination meetings and technical feedback sessions with the CEEG team, Women Count, and the Regional Office, as available. This role will allow the volunteer to strengthen their professional experience in the intersection of AI, statistics, and human rights, while acquiring applied knowledge about global data frameworks with a gender perspective promoted by UN Women. The volunteer will directly contribute to the development of high-impact products that position the CEEG as an international reference in ethical and gender-focused statistical innovation.
